The musicals just keep on coming and the big news on that front is that Broadway and West End smash-hit musical Pretty Woman: The Musical, based on the much-loved iconic film starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, will make its Australian debut at QPAC in Brisbane in October 2025.
Canadian singer-songwriter Bryan Adams, who wrote the music and lyrics for Pretty Woman: The Musical, alongside Jim Vallance, was at QPAC in Brisbane last Friday to make the official announcement. Adams just happens to be touring here at the moment.
“I’m thrilled Pretty Woman is finally in Australia. I went to see it last year and it blew me away!” Adams says.
The musical broke box-office records at the Nederlander Theatre when making its Broadway debut in 2018 and has also wowed audiences in Spain, Italy, Poland and Germany as well as an extended West End season. Local casting announcements will be made in the coming months, according to producer Suzanne Jones who was also in Brisbane for the announcement.
“I first saw this on the West End in London and just loved it and knew immediately that I needed to bring it to Australia,” Jones says. “I’m so excited to premiere this production in Brisbane.”
The story is set in the late ’80s, when Vivian meets Edward and her life changed forever.
Be swept up in their romance in this dazzlingly theatrical take on a love story for the ages – and get to know these iconic characters in a whole new way – in a sensational show that took London’s West End by storm.
The musical has a blazing rock score from Grammy winners Adams and Vallance (Summer of ’69, Heaven), and direction and choreography by Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, Hairspray).
The book is by the original movie’s director Garry Marshall and screenwriter J.F. Lawton, so that’s a powerhouse creative team representing the best of music, Hollywood and Broadway.
Pretty Woman: The Musical, produced by Suzanne Jones for Jones Theatrical Group, ATG Productions and Gavin Kalin Productions, will open at the Lyric Theatre, QPAC, in October. Waitlist now to be the first to access tickets via prettywomanthemusical.com.au or qpac.com.au
