Tributes are flowing for a “beautiful, strong” woman who was found dead on a suburban Queensland street in the middle of the night.
Police believe Chloe Jade Mason, 23, was chased down and shot dead on a street north of Brisbane by two men known to her.
She was found unconscious and unable to be revived on Railway Parade, Caboolture, at 12.10pm on Sunday.
She was declared deceased at the scene.
Detective Inspector David Harbison said police did not believe it was a random attack.
“Early investigations indicate the deceased was assaulted by two male persons who may have chased her down Railway Parade,” he told reporters on Sunday.
“Police are investigating reports of up to three to four shots fired in that street.”
During the assault the woman is believed to have received a gunshot wound.
Harbison said a number of witnesses from a nearby property were assisting police, with no clear suspects on the police radar.
“It was very dark… two males is about all we’ve got at the moment,” Harbison said.
“I want to reassure the public that a dedicated task force of local detectives along with specialist homicide detectives have been deployed to investigate this crime.
“The goal will be to bring the persons responsible to justice as quickly as possible.”
Hannah McKone led tributes for her sister, who loved children but would now never have the chance to become a mother.
“Grieving the life you never got to have and the experiences we didn’t get the chance to share. You would’ve been the most amazing mother,” she wrote on Facebook.
McKone said the family had no savings or financial means to give her little sister a funeral, and appealed for help on GoFundMe.
“We are graciously asking for help and support in this. All funds donated will be directly utilised for Chloe’s funeral service,” she wrote, with a target of $5000.
Another loved one wrote: “Rest in paradise beautiful girl, you were loved my so so many and will be missed and remembered by all.”
In recent months, Mason had posted a series of quotes to her Facebook page such as: ‘When you choose to forgive those who have hurt you, you take away their power’.
Another quote read: ‘Fools take a knife and stab people in the back. The wise the take a knife, cut the cord and free themselves from the fools.’
