The Princess of Wales has revealed she is in remission from cancer and looking forward to a “fulfilling year ahead”.

Kate posted the update to social media on Wednesday (AEDT), the same day she made a surprise visit to the London hospital that treated her throughout much of 2024.

The princess thanked The Royal Marsden for “looking after me so well” over the past year.

“It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focussed on recovery,” she wrote on X.

“As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal.

“I am, however, looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to.”

Kate underwent a course of preventative chemotherapy after major abdominal surgery a year ago revealed the presence of cancer.

For the treatment, which concluded in September, Kate attended The Royal Marsden hospital in central London.

Middleton revealed she and husband Prince William would become joint patrons of the hospital’s specialist cancer unit, and she made a surprise visit there on the same day.

On her visit, the 43-year-old met patients and staff and spoke of her own treatment.

“My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything,” she wrote.

“We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.”

She added: “My hope is, that by supporting groundbreaking research and clinical excellence, as well as promoting patient and family wellbeing, we might save many more lives, and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer.”

A royal source said Kate had wanted to show her gratitude to the hospital staff and highlight its work.

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust chef executive Cally Palmer said the hospital was “incredibly fortunate” to receive royal patronage.

“It is inspiring for staff and patients and enables us to shine a light on the outstanding work our staff deliver every day for patients and their families,” she said.

Kate’s illness meant she was absent from royal duties for most of last year, although she gave several health updates in highly personal video messages.
