An official White House portrait of returned US first lady Melania Trump has been released, as she takes over the FLOTUS social media accounts.

The wife of US President Donald Trump debuted her portrait on X, Instagram and Facebook early on Tuesday (Australian time).

Notably, there is no official FLOTUS account on X rival BlueSky.

The black and white shot was taken by photographer Régine Mahaux in the Yellow Oval Room at the White House on the day after the Trump’s inauguration.

It shows 54-year-old Melania looking all business. She is pictured standing behind a desk, wearing a tailored black blazer and trousers by Dolce & Gabbana, with a crisp white shirt.

“This looks like a Suits promo photo,” one user wrote on X, comparing the photo to the US TV show that once starred Meghan Markle.

“I didn’t know House of Cards was still running,” said another, in reference to Netflix’s political drama.

Others were much more impressed.

“Easily the most stunning First Lady in American history,” wrote an X user.

“Melania really exudes power in this photo – especially with the Washington Monument standing tall in the background,” said another.

The release follows official portraits of Trump and Vice-President JD Vance shortly before last week’s inauguration. They were taken by Trump’s personal photographer Daniel Torok and will hang in thousands of government buildings across the US.

Trump’s picture shows his brightly lit face scowling at the camera in a look that closely resembles his famous mugshot taken when he was arrested in 2023.

“Just in: The official portrait of the 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. This goes hard. Total mugshot vibes,” was one reaction on social media.
