SA tourism businesses grab gold at national tourism awards

Nine South Australian tourism enterprises have won big on home soil, at the 40th Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, held at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

Iconic local winery Seppeltsfield Barossa took out the gold in the Tourism Wineries, Distilleries and Breweries category, while Old Coach Road Estate also took home gold in the self-contained accommodation category for their luxurious holiday retreat in the Fleurieu Peninsula.

The Qantas Australian Tourism Awards feature 26 categories, including tourist attractions, adventure tourism and major festivals. They were held in Adelaide on Friday night.

All nominees were winners in their respective state/territory-based awards program, with South Australia’s finalists winning at the 2024 South Australian Tourism Awards, presented by the Tourism Industry Council South Australia (TiCSA).

Among the local champions for ecotourism, tour and transport operators and adventure tourism respectively were The Big Duck Boat Tours, Spirit of the Coorong and Bendleby Ranges. The silver medal for 4-4.5 star deluxe accommodation was presented to the Oval Hotel.

Picking up bronze in their individual categories were Kool Tours, Barossa Australia – Barossa. Be Curious and the Adelaide Fringe.

TiCSA CEO Shaun de Bruyn said it was “hugely satisfying” to see local businesses and experiences recognised on the national stage.

“Our tourism operators are some of the proudest South Australians going,” he said.

Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison said it was an honour to host “the night of night for our country’s tourism industry”.

“A lot has changed about our State’s tourism industry in the ten years since we last hosted the national awards, so I was incredibly proud to share some of the advancements we have made to the leading industry delegates here this week,” she said.

78 awards were presented on the night, and all winners can be found on the Australian Tourism Awards website.
