Jane Austen’s timeless tale Pride & Prejudice, one of the greatest romance novels ever penned, is being brought to life in an unmissable adaption by Queensland Theatre. The Regency-era extravaganza is set to sweep audiences into Jane Austen’s brilliantly crafted world of wit, charm and irresistible romance in the ultimate theatrical love letter to the original rom-com.

Queensland Theatre’s latest production will hit QPAC’s Playhouse stage from February 20 to March 9, with a talented all-Queensland ensemble tasked with bringing the unforgettable Pride & Prejudice characters to life in a contemporary retelling laced with razor-sharp humour, passion and social satire. Think Bridgerton vibes with a splash of ‘hot girl summer’ energy, all wrapped up in the romance and hypocrisy of 19th century England.

Coinciding with the 250th year since Jane Austen’s birth, Queensland Theatre’s ode to the timeless tale stars the brilliant Maddison Burridge as the clever, witty and fiercely independent Elizabeth Bennet.

Adapted for the stage by Wendy Mocke and Lewis Treston, this dynamic production takes Elizabeth (Maddison Burridge) on a journey through the social and marital pressures of her time, with her dithery mother Catherine (Gael Ballantyne) and her marriage-obsessed sisters at her side. While yearning for the freedom to determine her own destiny in love, Elizabeth (Maddison Burridge) encounters the arrogant yet infuriatingly eligible Mr Darcy (Andrew Hearle). As their worlds collide amid glamourous balls, gossip and social expectations, it becomes evident that the unlikely pair are, in fact, the perfect match.

Directed by Bridget Boyle and Daniel Evans, Queensland Theatre’s dazzling adaption of Pride & Prejudice puts a fresh, contemporary spin on the novel that defined the very genre of romantic comedy. With wit, charm and undeniable flair, the must-see production promises to captivate audiences in a limited season from February 20 to March 9. Tickets are on sale now via Queensland Theatre.
