On Friday March 14, the highly anticipated production of the five-time Tony Award-winning play Peter and the Starcatcher will alight in Brisbane for a strictly limited season at the QPAC Playhouse. Originally developed by Disney Theatrical Group and written by renowned playwright and four–time Tony Award nominee Rick Elice, this thrilling tale of pre-Peter Neverland has been reimagined for Australian audiences by David Morton, Helpmann Award-nominated director and co-founder of Brisbane’s very own Dead Puppet Society.
Based on the 2004 novel Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave BaBarry and Ridley Pearson, this swashbuckling prequel immerses you in a fantastical world of mystical mermaids, plundering pirates and curious creatures. It’s a world that may seem familiar and unfamiliar at once. Before Neverland, there was an island. Before Captain Hook, a pirate. Before Wendy, her mother Molly. Before Peter, a nameless boy. Having taken Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney by storm, this theatrical marvel is ready to enthral Brisbane in flights of delight.
The second star to the right will have a hard time standing out amongst the star-studded cast which includes starring Pete Helliar (The Amazing Race), Colin Lane (Lano & Woodley), Alison Whyte (Frontline), Paul Capsis (La Cage Aux Folles), Olivia Deeble (Home and Away) and Otis Dhanji (Aquaman). The ensemble of 15 actors and musicians will, through the power of more than 60 fabulous costumes and 90 puppets (of the excellence the Dead Puppet Society is known for), bring over 100 characters to life over the course of this mad-cap, hilarious and heartfelt adventure.
Running from March 14 to April 6, don’t miss out on this world-class wonder. Hook your tickets here.
