Peek inside The Shores – Miami’s newest retro-inspired boutique motel

After a multi-million-dollar, one-and-a-half-year refurbishment, longstanding Miami motel The Shores has reopened its pastel-hued doors – and boy, it’s a beauty. The property’s Palm Springs-inspired transformation is part of a growing wave of motel makeovers along the Gold Coast’s coastline. Here’s a peek inside …

Located just 200 meters from Miami Beach on the Gold Coast Highway, The Shores has been somewhat of a landmark since the 1970s. While it’s common to see older coastal properties knocked down to make way for new builds, owner-builder Greg Strode and renowned stylist and designer Jason Grant (the creative behind retro revivals like Blue Water Motel and Bruns Surf Shack) instead worked to preserve the 70s charm of the Miami motel while giving a clever and contemporary nod to the era’s laid-back surf culture.

The chic new boutique motel features a collection of thoughtfully designed rooms and spacious suites with sleek furnishings and pops of colour – perfect for couples, families and small groups. Each room at The Shores is adorned with plush bedding, soft linens, bar fridges, Nespresso machines, cosy robes and slippers.

The centrepiece of The Shores is its sparkling, palm-tree-lined pool, surrounded by red-hued statement lounges, VIP cabanas and striped umbrellas – the perfect spot to kick back in the sunshine with a tipple in hand. The best part? Burleigh Heads and Nobby Beach are both minutes away, and Miami beach is so close you’ll hear the waves rolling in.

The Shores at Miami is now open for bookings via the website.
