Following hot on the heels of the headline-grabbing 2023 openings of Fosh and Rich & Rare, the Tassis Group kept momentum going in 2024 with pan-Asian bar and restaurant Longwang, which opened down a slender alleyway space off Edward Street in The City in May. Though it may have diners tittering at its branding, Longwang shares its name with the revered Dragon King, a Chinese water and weather god who was said to dispense rain and have command over all bodies of water. Longwang pays homage to its namesake through a menu that explores contemporary Asian gastronomy, especially seafood. Executing Longwang’s offering is executive chef and partner Jason Margaritis – an accomplished cuisiner who has previously helmed the kitchen at sAme sAme and Donna Chang. The menu features snacks like tuna with cherry tomato nahm jim, seared scallops with strange flavour sauce and macadamia, and pan-fried wagyu beef dumplings. Centrepiece mains include charcoal-grilled Skull Island prawns with salted duck-egg butter, tea smoked and fried half duck, hiramasa kingfish curry, stir-fried bug tail meat ‘kung pao’ with cashews and facing-heaven chillies, and Westholme wagyu bistro fillets.
Longwang is the Tassis Group’s most unconventional restaurant to date, as far as footprint is concerned. Measuring 3-m wide and 30-m in length, Longwang boasts a slim custom-built layout divided over two-and-a-half levels, with an open-air bar situated on the upstairs mezzanine offering a vantage point over the streetscape. Clui Design has once again collaborated with the Tassis Group for the restaurant’s aesthetic, with black steel structural elements, jade-coloured marble accents and elegant brass embellishments featuring.
