After decades establishing their own careers, brothers Tze-Huei Choo and Chewie Choo have teamed up together to open Mitch & Antler in Mitchelton. Located in a character-listed former corner store tucked away from the main drag of Samford Road on Suez Street, the duo is honing in on a neighbourhood-centric personality that favours fun, flavour and friendliness. The 60-seater venue has been given a Southern California-inspired aesthetic comprised of sunny hues, palms and greenery – with alfresco and internal seating available alongside a grab-and-go coffee window. Bringing their well-honed sense of the industry to the fore to serve the community, the brothers have devised a menu that veers away from a traditional Australian breakfast favourites in favour of a contemporary offering boasting Japanese and European twists. Guests can devour omurice with kimchi, wagyu mince fried rice, edamame, coriander, pickled onion and toragashi, brown butter croffles, with poached eggs, stracciatella, prosciutto, roasted stone fruits, bacon crumb and pickled red onions, and croque madames with smoked ham, sourdough, fried free-range egg, mustard leek cream, manchego and Egmont cheese. Coffee from Kasa Coffee is on deck alongside frappe cans, freshly squeezed juices, peanut butter and jelly smoothies and teas, as well as low-cal soft drinks from Strangelove and signature mocktails made using non-alcoholic spirits.
