The 90s were a vibrant and chaotic decade filled with cultural icons like grunge music, Michael Jordan, the Spice Girls, and Hollywood glitz. Dilan Ildes, a child of the 90s, channels his love for the era’s glamour in his latest venture Mr. Vain Bar & Dining, which is located in Fortitude Valley. This stylish restaurant and bar blends the 90s’ hedonistic vibes with a modern, timeless aesthetic. The interior, designed by Courtney Low, evokes a cinematic atmosphere, with minimalist touches like intimate booths, sleek lighting, and 90s-inspired photos. The menu is filled with Pan-Asian delicacies, including spicy yellowfin tuna tacos with wasabi, avocado crema and coriander, fried king prawn toast with soy mayo, sesame and lime, Szechuan-spiced lamb ribs with red vinegar, fried chilli and shiso, hibachi-grilled swordfish, koji, miso and yuzu oil, and red glazed duck breast, charred shallot, shiso and plum jus. The bar program, led by Jhon Gavino Hinestroza, offers unique cocktails, including the Fall 95′ and The Pitt, along with a curated wine list. Mr. Vain brings a sophisticated yet fun experience, reminiscent of a glamorous 90s New York night out.
