The brains behind Happy Boy and Snack Man came one step closer to completing its East Street dining precinct in June 2024, opening Petite on the corner of East, Ann and James Streets. Petite sees the team apply its unique sensibilities to a French-inspired wine bar and bistro concept. Boasting a stunning glass facade and minimal, industrial-inspired interiors (softened by bentwood chairs, blue rugs, leather banquettes and eye-catching vintage Marano chandeliers), Petite cuts a striking figure. Guests can perch at the bar, at tables scattered across the dining floor, or at the cushy booths (an upstairs mezzanine houses Petite’s private-dining space).

The menu is designed for sharing, with 20 options ranging from snacks like baked scallops, steak tartare with gherkins, confit yolk and pomme gaufrette, onion tarte tatin with creme fraiche, and potato pave, which lead into more substantial plates like crispy cordon bleu and pan-fried fish with beurre blanc sauce, confit duck with potato mash, and two kinds of steaks. The wine offering includes 20 options by the glass (curated to match with a corresponding dish), a separate list of grower champagne and cremant, and a tailored by the bottle list with a rotating regional lens.
