Single O, one of Australia’s preeminent coffee roasters, opened its first-ever Brisbane coffee bar (and second in Australia) in August 2023. Taking over the space previously home to Oliver James Coffee on Austin Street in Newstead, Single O is now showcasing its signature top-flight coffee-centric experience – the kind that has made its flagship Surry Hills cafe a inimitable institution (just ask any Sydney-based sipper). The Newstead haunt is equipped with a Queensland-first self-serve coffee-on-tap counter, which pours rotating single origin batch brews and a refreshing Oasis oat iced latte. The roaster’s signature Reservoir blend is on deck for espresso drinkers (dairy is supplied by Norco and plant-based milks by Alternative Dairy Company), alongside more single origins for espressos and long blacks. Brisbane’s own Allora Black is collaborating on a special coffee-infused gelato for Single O’s lauded affogato, while Agnes Bakery is supplying a number of its popular pastry items. Single O added more seating and expanded its menu in 2024, offering the likes of braised leeks with smoked potato sourdough and whipped tofu, lemon and pepperberry chicken toasties, and pizzetta with mortadella, stracciatella, pistachio and basil oil.
