Frolic to QPAC this February for Queensland Theatre’s latest Austen-tatious production. The mother of all romantic comedies Pride & Prejudice is receiving a Bridgerton treatment with a reimagining by Patrick White Award-winners Wendy Mocke and Lewis Treston.
In the 250 years since Jane Austen penned Pride & Prejudice, this timeless piece of literature has captivated generations of readers with its riotous romance. This latest production will pay homage to Jane’s incomparable wit and wisdom in a sumptuous new theatrical adaption with an all-Queensland cast. Directed by Bridget Boyle and Daniel Evans, Pride & Prejudice will premiere at Toowoomba’s Empire Theatre on February 13, before moving to QPAC’s Playhouse, from February 20 to March 9.
The story follows the smart and fearless Elizabeth Bennet (Maddison Burridge), along with her husband-hunting sisters and dithery mother. Elizabeth longs for the power to determine her own marital fate amidst a world of regency balls, gossip and 19th-century gender politics. However, Elizabeth’s quest for independence is complicated when she meets the infuriatingly arrogant, aloof and eligible Mr Darcy (Andrew Hearle), inciting a delicious romantic comedy for the ages.
