Queensland Theatre’s vibrant adaptation of Pride & Prejudice will hit QPAC’s Playhouse stage from February 20 to March 9, featuring a talented all-Queensland cast and a contemporary retelling brimming with wit, passion, and social satire. Set against the backdrop of 19th-century England, this fresh take combines Bridgerton vibes with ‘hot girl summer’ energy as it follows the witty and independent Elizabeth Bennet (Maddison Burridge) navigating the social pressures of her time. While yearning for the freedom to determine her own destiny in love, Elizabeth encounters the aloof yet infuriatingly eligible Mr Darcy (Andrew Hearle). As their worlds collide amid regency balls, gossip and social expectations, it becomes evident that the unlikely pair are, in fact, the perfect match. Directed by Bridget Boyle and Daniel Evans, this dynamic production celebrates the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth and offers a modern, captivating twist on the classic romance.
