The next chapter in QAGOMA’s flagship exhibition series has arrived. With work by more than 200 artists, makers and thinkers, The 11th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art will continue the event series’ three decade-long tradition of bringing world-class art to Brisbane.
Across QAG and GOMA, The 11th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art will reflect the region’s social and cultural diversity, with 70 projects from across Australia, Asia and the Pacific. Drawing on a wealth of cultural expression and including artists not previously exhibited in Australia, APT11 considers unifying thematic threads such as care for natural and urban environments, intergenerational experiences of migration and labour, and nuanced approaches to storytelling, materials and technique. This exhibition highlights the collective, performative and community-driven art making that thrives in the region, with First Nations, minority and diaspora cultures playing a central role in this year’s showcase.
“As with previous Triennials, the eleventh chapter will be presented throughout both QAG and GOMA and include works produced across vast geographies and cultural contexts, offering audiences a multiplicity of experiences, perspectives and diverse approaches to both contemporary and community-based customary art practices,” shares QAGOMA Director Chris Saines CNZM.
Beyond the exhibition, both QAGOMA’s cinema and children’s learning centre will host a slew of opportunities to engage with this year’s artist cohort in new and unexpected ways.
