Familiar Spirits, Burleigh Heads
Burleigh Heads has just upped its distillery game with the arrival of Familiar Spirits, a hidden gem in the suburb’s industrial precinct that’s bringing small-batch, locally crafted spirits and vibrant cocktails to the forefront. Born from a hobby-turned-passion project by self-taught distiller Justin Bell and his wife Lana (a photographer and graphic designer), the cellar door offers a cosy, stylish space decked out with tropical wallpaper and timber tones, perfect for sipping expertly crafted drinks like The Butler’s Gin and macadamia-fat-washed pudding gin negronis. With a sharing menu curated by Lana’s chef sister Bree, including beef carpaccio and burrata, plus a talented bar team led by Danson Danium, Familiar Spirits is a must-visit for anyone who loves artisanal booze and a welcoming vibe.
Mona Lisa’s Lair, Miami
Miami Marketta has added a touch of Parisian sophistication with the opening of Mona Lisa’s Lair, a French-inspired retreat that offers a more refined dining experience. This intimate adults-only space features candlelit ambiance, plush velvet seating and an exquisite menu crafted by chef Tom Kirby featuring dishes like fondue tart and coq au vin blanc. Here, you can sip champagne, enjoy French classical music, and indulge in an elegant atmosphere that offers a break from the usual Marketta buzz. Mona Lisa’s Lair is the perfect spot for a romantic night out or special celebration, and doubles as a stunning venue for private events.

Llamas to the Sky, Burleigh Heads
Llamas to the Sky is the latest venture from Dean Hyland (Liquid Things) and his partner Bec Stefanovic. The pair have taken the over the iconic white-brick building on Kortum Drive (formerly home to Outerbound and The Salvation Army) in Burleigh Heads, transforming it into a welcoming space focused on connection and community. Inspired by the dynamic of llamas thriving with a friend, Dean’s approach to hospitality is all about fostering relationships over a simple yet satisfying menu featuring specialty coffee from Laceys Lane and delicious bites like avocado toast and smoked-chicken toasties. With plans for events like Mexican cooking classes and breakfast beats, Llamas to the Sky is quickly becoming a hub for locals to connect, share and create new friendships in a space that evolves with its community.
Taiwan Tummy, Chirn Park
Labrador’s Chirn Park welcomed Taiwan Tummy this month, a fresh Taiwanese street food haven led by husband-and-wife duo Jasper Tsai and Cynthia Leung. The couple, with roots deep in Taiwan’s culinary scene, have brought their passion for authentic Taiwanese flavours to the Gold Coast. Taiwan Tummy is a tribute to Jasper’s grandmother, who started a street food cart in 1958, and the restaurant’s menu shines with simplicity and flavour. Expect mouthwatering bento boxes like Taiwanese shredded chicken and rice, deep-fried chicken Maryland, and fried pork loin chop – all paired with homemade drinks like apple tea and bubble tea. Whether you’re grabbing something to takeaway or staying for a bite in its chic, modern space, Taiwan Tummy is a must-try spot that serves up both comfort and culture in every dish.
