Now in its 22nd year, the Australian Interior Design Awards is regarded as the benchmark by which many of the country’s best design endeavours are appraised. Backed by the Design Institute of Australia and Architecture Media’s InteriorsAu, this peer-reviewed and industry-based program celebrates innovative and creative work across a number of sectors, including residential, hospitality, retail, installation and workplace design.

In early April, the Australian Interior Design Awards released its shortlist of nominees for 2025, featuring a whopping 195 entries. A number of Queensland projects featured in this year’s list, with a clutch of hospitality venues included in the crop of nominees. ACME’s work on the design for the Brisbane outpost of Trader House’s Supernormal was recognised, as was J.AR Office’s striking subterranean scheme for Hong Kong-inspired restaurant Central. Alkot Studio also earned a spot on the shortlist for its chic design work for James Street eatery ēmmē, while Derlot’s work on +81 Aizome Bar in West End and Burly Bar’s slick design by Studio Plenty rounded out Queensland’s hospitality-based contingent.

On the wellness front, Hogg & Lamb’s design for The Bathhouse Albion has also been recognised with a nomination, while Clui Design’s work for Rays Wellness Brisbane and BrownHaus by By Culprit are both shortlisted in the Retail Design category. Queensland’s sole nomination for Residential Design was earned by Il House in New Farm, a luxury property shaped by North Interiors.

The winners of the 2025 Australian Interior Design Awards will be announced at a gala presentation dinner held in Melbourne on Friday June 6.
