Get ready for a spicy shake-up! Little Tommy’s – the spirited younger sibling of Currumbin’s eternally popular Tommy’s Italian – has undergone a delicious transformation, turning into Tommy’s Taco Bar. The succinct-yet-satisfying menu opens with entradas of ceviche and beef tartare alongside jalapeno sourdough focaccia topped with smoked scamorza cheese and crisp potatoes with jalapeno mayo, to name a few. There are two kinds of nachos on offer, chilli con carne beef or veggie, each available on a bed of fries or corn chips, and, as you might expect, the tacos are the hero here with five different kinds ranging from the classic slow-cooked short ribs with oxtail to KFC chicken with rancho sauce and fish tempura. You’ll also find two kinds of birria tacos (called quesabirrias) that are served with a rich consomme for dipping. Best of all, Tommy’s Taco Bar is intended as a budget-friendly option that caters to families (offering a couple of less-spicy kids quesadillas) with tacos generally hovering around $7 ($5 on Tuesdays!). If you’ve got a sweet tooth, finish your feast with homemade churros served with an indulgent coconut dulce de leche. Oh, heads up, it’s walk-in only.
