When Palm Beach Ave served its last prawn and bug agnolotti, the promise was made that something even better was in the works. At long last, we’ve got our first taste of what that something – or perhaps more accurately, someone – is. Meet Madame V, the forthcoming Asian-inspired venue from celebrated chef Daniel Ridgeway and his wife Ruggie. Take a peek inside …
This year has spurred a plethora of new dining establishments open on the Gold Coast. While we never like to play favourites, Madame V is, without a doubt, one of the most impressive. Best known for their two-hatted restaurant Little Truffle Dining Room & Bar, Daniel and Ruggie Ridgeway, are set to open the doors to a brand-new Asian-inspired concept that’s been more than a year in the making. The show-stopping venue, which will launch on Thursday October 17, will meld traditional and modern Asian flavours to create a unique and delicious dining experience.
From the moment you get a glimpse of the oriental doors embellished with mirrored gold handles, you get the sense that that Madame V is out to impress. As you step foot inside, your inkling is solidified once you gaze upon the chic lounge bar, which is framed by heavy emerald-hued curtains, striking chandeliers and a gorgeous bonsai. Make your way through to the main dining area and you’ll discover plush velvet booths paired with leather lounges, inviting you to settle in and get comfortable.
Adding to the grandeur of Madame V is not one, but three private-dining rooms – the prized Sakura Room, which can host up to 16 guests with an option to include your own private chef or bartender, the Lotus Room for up to 18 guests and the Jasmine Room, also for 18, but can be joined to accomodate a long table for up to 50 guests.
As for the food, owner and head chef Daniel Ridgeway explains “We’ve carefully curated our menu to offer a unique blend of flavours and textures from across Asia that will appeal to both adventurous and traditional palates.” The a la carte offering opens with the likes of freshly shucked oysters and lobster baos, available alongside rolls of rainbow sushi (with the option to add a caviar topper) and delicate tuna tataki with chilli daikon, ponzu and crispy garlic. Small tastes of sticky pork ribs and salt-and-pepper calamari vie for your attention alongside the dumpling and buns section, which headlines the venue’s soon-to-be famous Yum Cha Sundays. There’s a scattering of share-style mains including miso salmon, teriyaki chicken and wagyu MB9+ porterhouse with yakiniku and pickled ginger, and rounding out the offering is a red velvet soft-serve topped with shards of hazelnut brittle and a baked pavlova with strawberry and matcha tea.
Asian flavours have also infiltrated the drinks list, with the signature Peach Blossom (gin, peach liqueur, yuzu and grapefruit) available alongside green tea-infused cocktails, sake and a tightly curated clutch of bubbles, whites and reds.“Opening Madame V is a concept I have been working on for quite some time,” Daniel tells us. “Our goal is to create a vibrant space where people can enjoy exceptional Asian cuisine in a sophisticated yet relaxed setting.” To that end, Daniel and the team have grand plans to roll out Yum Cha Sundays in coming weeks – think dumplings, cocktails and tunes.
