Go ahead and start practicing your line dancing because the Gold Coast has welcomed a cowboy-themed bar. The bar – aptly named Cowboys – has been a stalwart in Queenstown New Zealand for over 16 years and has made its way across the ditch to make its glorious debut in Surfers Paradise. Cowboys is bringing its mix of rowdy fun, country charm, oh, and did we mention a mechanical bull? Here’s everything you need to know …
Cowboys is not just a bar, it’s an immersive experience. As soon as you step foot inside, you’ll be transported America’s deep south with western interiors, taxidermied Texas Longhorns, custom pool tables, shuffleboard tables and electronic dart boards. The hero, however, is undoubtedly the mechanical bull imported straight from the USA, which promises the ‘best eight seconds of your life’. While some venues charge individually for each of the activities, at Cowboys, it’s all included in the experience with the exception of the bucking bull, which you can ride for a gold coin donation to a local charity.
You’ll find Cowboys hidden beneath Tiki Village International Resort. Framed by an expansive outdoor deck area, the sizeable space has capacity for roughly 500 patrons, with a separate area for private events. The venue’s owner Ingrid, who also operates Cowboys Queenstown, has a long history in hospitality, including running a restaurant that was once named in the Top 50 in the World by Condé Nast Traveller.
In terms of the menu, expect simple but delicious pub-style classics – think pizza, fish and chips, ribs and burgers. The signature is the Well Hung Cowboy kebab, which is available in your choice of beef, chicken or halloumi, and arrives at your table dangling from a stand. The opening drinks least features plenty of pleasing options, from mainstream beers to crowd-favourite wines.
On Tuesday nights, there will be line dancing lessons and Sunday nights will bring out the karaoke stars.
Cowboys Surfers Paradise is now open!
