If having a classic margarita in one hand, a crispy fish taco in the other, and your eyes gazing over at the ocean’s rolling waves is your idea of a good time, then Nude Amigos’ latest venue will be right up your alley. The team behind the popular Mexican cantina and margarita bar has just opened a third venue, taking prime position on the beachfront at The Strand in Coolangatta.

Following the success of its Broadbeach and Kingscliff locations, which opened in 2034 and 2024 respectively, Nude Amigos’ tasty tacos and famed margaritas are now being served up just metres from Coolangatta Beach. The sprawling 250-seat beauty is the biggest Nude Amigos yet, with its signature wood accents, peach-hued walls adorned with Mexican murals and palapa umbrellas creating a breezy space for long margarita-fuelled lunches, sunset sips and after-dark taco feasts.

The Coolangatta iteration of Nude Amigos offers the same mouth-watering menu of Mexican eats (including those jalapeno poppers) and myriad of margaritas as its popular siblings, serving everything from traditional Mexican snacks to quesadillas, stuffed burritos, sizzling fajitas, flavour-packed nachos and a series of authentic tacos.

The guacamole topped with chicharrones (crispy pork-belly pieces) and pico de gallo is a great place to start, and the ideal prelude to the king-prawn ceviche served atop a house-made tostada. For bigger bites, there’s the seafood burrito overflowing with scallops and king prawns, slow-cooked beef-cheek quesadillas with molten cheese and the eye-catching Nude Bowl finished with avocado dressing, elote (street corn) and a pickled chimichurri slaw.

If you’ve only got eyes for tacos, choose from the likes of twice-cooked beef cheek with rich beef consommé for dipping, glazed pork belly with pineapple, guacamole and pickle slaw, and the crispy fish taco with lettuce, chimichurri slaw and jalapeno mayo.

The Nude Amigos margarita menu is stacked with choices, featuring everything from classics, Tommy’s and chillis to flavoured options like cucumber, mango pineapple and chilli coconut. There’s also frozen margaritas flowing in rotating flavours, and a raft of Mexican cocktails like smoky mezcal palomas, an anejo old fashioned and the Mexican mule made with Patron tequila and spicy ginger beer.

Nude Amigos owner Sara Hawkins has also recently taken over the neighbouring space and opened Nude Juice, which serves fresh juices and fruit-topped acai bowls. The food offering is set to expand soon, with takeaway Mexican breakfasts on the cards – think breakfast burritos and quesadillas, and fried churros for later in the day.
