The Oracle Boulevard dining precinct in Broadbeach is set for a major overhaul, with developer Makris Group announcing bold plans for a new multi-venue project. Though, the news is bittersweet – restaurants Orzo, Mecca Bah and The Cuban will all close their doors within weeks to make way for three brand-new venues. Here’s what we know …
Makris Group, which acquired Oracle Boulevard in 2014, has joined forces with SOX Hospitality Group to transform the 600-sqm site currently occupied by Italian favourite Orzo, Mediterranean restaurant Mecca Bah and The Cuban into an innovative multi-million-dollar dining concept. Set to open in late 2025, the mini precinct within Oracle Boulevard’s north-west corner will incorporate three new venues – a wine bar, a premium steakhouse and a Japanese restaurant.
“Our mission is to enrich the Gold Coast’s dining landscape with venues that have their own unique character,” said Simon Morris, the founder of SOX Hospitality Group, which owns Surfers Paradise venue White Rhino and recently acquired Mecca Bah Broadbeach.
“We’re set to reveal more details soon but expect some exciting new flavours,” he said.
While the innovative plans detail an exciting future for the Oracle Boulevard precinct, it means the Gold Coast will bid adieu to a trio of longstanding restaurants.
The Cuban’s final service was last Friday January 31, while SOX has confirmed it will continue to operate Mecca Bah for at least another month. Orzo owners Matt and Dayna Jefferson, who also own Social Eating House on the boulevard’s southern corner, confirmed in a statement on the venue’s Instagram page that the final service will be on Saturday February 15.
“While we once envisaged expansion, we now find ourselves embracing a different path – one of refinement and renewal,” the statement read. “If there’s one thing we’ve learned in business, it’s to trust our instincts, and this moment feels like the right one to step into something new.”
More details on the exciting new Oracle Boulevard arrivals are set to be released in the coming weeks – stay tuned.
