Tucked away along Johns Road in Mudgeeraba, Boomerang Farm has been a local institution since 1885. The iconic farm has had many incarnations over its nearly 140-years, from a tourist attraction and boomerang production facility to golf course. The nine-hole golf course, which was established in 1994 by Rob and James King, remains a popular par for players and continues to attract leisure seekers, alongside the site’s BMX track. Perhaps, most notably, in recent years the mixed-use venue became the backdrop for weddings, with countless forevers pledged beneath the towering trees. Now, Boomerang Farm is set to enter an exciting new era. Here’s what we know so far …
After acquiring the 200-acre property in July 2024, visionary restaurateur Stevie Filipovic (the creative force behind Light Years and Hotel Panchos) alongside long-time business partner Jonathan Leishman, has unveiled some pretty impressive plans for the oasis, starting with Cook Club, the venue’s new onsite eatery that promises to redefine dining in the Gold Coast Hinterland.
Helmed by chef Rodrigo Paraboa, whose culinary pedigree includes Paper Daisy, Little Truffle, and most recently Moustache at The Oxley, the menu is a departure from the typical golf course fare. Dishes like kingfish ceviche with compressed melon and coconut cream, grilled prawns on betel leaves and the signature wood-fire-grilled snapper with coconut yellow curry elevate the dining experience. For a lighter bite, there’s a selection of dumplings, baos and colourful salads.
To complement the fresh flavours, Cook Club offers a curated drinks menu, from refreshing Aperol spritz to the tropical ‘Easy on the Eyes,’ made with gin, coconut rum, watermelon and lime. The restaurant’s sleek design, imagined by Victoria’s Studio Co & Co, features a stylish palette of terracotta and teal, with both high and low tables available for guests.
And this is only the beginning. The team is keeping details under wraps, but plans for an upgraded golf course and the activation of the entire site are already underway. Future developments may include a cultural hub for music, arts and potentially even festivals.
Open for breakfast and lunch, Cook Club is eyeing evening service soon, offering locals and visitors a taste of what’s to come in this exciting new chapter.
