From the outside, Harvest Foodhouse is a bustling takeaway-centric cafe plying the locals with their daily dose of caffeine. Those who venture through the doors, however, are greeted with a secret-garden-style alfresco area complete with cabanas, gorgeous greenery and plenty of seating. An oasis in the heart of Robina, here’s everything you need to know …
When Anja and Jonathan Ede took over the space formerly known as Parkway in Robina late last year, they didn’t just give the place a lick of paint and open the doors. Having owned Café Alfons on Chevron Island for over a decade, the pair took a step back and really considered the entire dining experience, from takeaway all the way through to long, leisurely lunches. With capacity for 110 dine-in customers at any given time, plus more lingering out the front, they knew that maintaining smooth, speedy service during peak hours meant separating the kitchens – one dedicated to takeaway and another for dining in. This thoughtful approach ensures that the customer experience is always top-notch at Harvest Foodhouse.
Aesthetically, Anja and Jonathan gave the place a few tweaks here and there, including new furniture, eye-catching decorations and really dialled up the greenery, transforming the outdoor seating area into an alfresco paradise. The biggest change however was the name, Harvest Foodhouse, which is a nod to the venue’s rustic nature and welcoming atmosphere.
The menu at Harvest Foodhouse is an experience in itself. Anja and Jonathan’s vision for the space was to offer hearty dishes packed with flavour, using the best local produce. Their aim was to create meals that were generous in size and rich in taste, with plenty of familiar favourites peppered amongst the all-day breakfast selections.
The crowd-favourite smashed avo is served on a Byron Bay pretzel instead of the standard sourdough, offering a tasty twist on the classic. The standout, however, is the pancake tacos, a whimsical dish filled with caramelised peaches, chantilly cream, pistachio crumble and lychee popping pearls. Those who prefer savoury will enjoy the beef and French onion dipping sandwich. A slow-cooked pulled-beef sandwich, oozing with mozzarella and pickles, is served with homemade French onion soup for dipping and slurping.
For a heartier appetite, the Harvest Feed is the cafe’s version of the big brekkie and is not for the faint-hearted. This generous dish includes thick-cut maple-glazed bacon, house-made chorizo beans and an assortment of delicious extras.
As lunchtime rolls around, the menu shifts to include dishes like Atlantic salmon, delicately infused with chamomile smoke and served with soba noodles, green beans and a miso-sesame dressing. The crab ravioli, with its luxurious, ocean-fresh filling, offers a refined take on classic pasta.
To wash it all down, Harvest Foodhouse serves premium coffee by Adore, alongside cold-pressed juices, next-level milkshakes and matcha-based drinks, including the ever-popular strawberry-matcha lattes. They’re licensed too, if you fancy a stronger sip. And for something sweet, the cabinet is stocked with treats handmade by Anja herself – continuing a family tradition of baking excellence that dates back to 1898 in Germany.
