Plans unveiled for a world-class luxury eco-lodge on Hook Island
Hook Island, a rugged jewel in the heart of The Whitsundays, is set for a spectacular revival. The island’s visionary owners have unveiled ambitious plans to transform the largely untouched piece of paradise into a world-class eco resort, which is poised to set a new standard for sustainable luxury travel.
Back in 2022, Epochal Hotels CEO Glenn Piper and a small group of investors acquired the leasehold to Hook Island, driven by a bold vision to restore the mostly uninhabited island after it was left severely impacted by cyclones.
With 9.3-ha of untouched raw beauty as their canvas, Hook Island’s owners have firmed up plans for a luxury sustainable eco-lodge, promising a destination that’ll be as wild as it is welcoming.
Expected to open in 2027, the high-end eco-lodge will incorporate 39 luxury cabins that adopt biophilic design principles and cyclone-resistant modular architecture, blending seamlessly with the island’s natural contours.

The resort is set to feature a grand arrival pavilion, rainforest eco pools, wellness spaces and all-ages adventure activities. The plans also detail two dining experiences including a clifftop fine-dining restaurant overlooking Stingray Bay.
“Hook Island is a truly spectacular part of the world – its raw beauty deserves a sanctuary that both preserves and celebrates every facet of its charm. Our vision is bold: to create an experience that redefines luxury travel through a deep, authentic and wild-spirited connection to nature,” said Glenn Piper in a statement.
“This project has been a labour of love; we’ve poured our hearts into blending thoughtful design with a profound respect for the island’s heritage and delicate ecosystem. After being closed for more than a decade, we can’t wait to soon welcome overnight guests and day visitors alike to experience its magic firsthand.”
More details are set to be announced as the project nears completion.
