Every month, in the backstreets of West End, a group of whisky enthusiasts come together to sniff, sip and share some laughs while sampling whisky from around the world. Starting in 2018 as a humble gathering of friends over their shared fondness for golden drams, Supping Club has since extended its offering, adding annual whisky-tasting block party Whisky Whisky to its calendar of events. Now, the Brisbane-based founder is putting his palate to the ultimate test, with the launch of his first independent bottling – A Whisky by Whisky Whisky.
Over his years of whisky appreciation, Supping Club and Whisky Whisky founder Shaun Restorick-Barton has sampled hundreds of drams. Most recently, his senses have been focused on one whisky in particular – sourcing the perfect barrel for his first independent bottling. After carefully testing a wide variety of single-cask whiskies, Shaun hand-selected a spritely, cask-strength eight-year-old Scottish Highland single malt – and from there, A Whisky by Whisky Whisky was born.
The selection of the cask, the finishing process and the cask-strength bottling all contribute to the exceptional character of A Whisky by Whisky Whisky. The Highland peated whisky has a rounder, gentler smoke than its feisty Islay cousins, which is complemented by notes of buttered toffee and vanilla, thanks to its bourbon-cask finish. Finally, flavours of apple and baking spice add complexity and balance, resulting in a comforting dram that leaves a lingering warmth on the palate.
The first batch of A Whisky by Whisky Whisky is limited to 200 hand-numbered bottles. Keen to get your hands on one? Head to the Supping Club website or keep an eye out at selected boutique bottle shops.
