Shane Delia is heading north, announcing plans to open a restaurant in Brisbane early next year. The Melbourne-based chef and restaurateur’s new concept will be taking shape within the Thomas Dixon Centre, Queensland Ballet’s performing arts precinct in West End. In addition to his own eatery, Shane will also be partnering with VenuesLive to enhance the Thomas Dixon Centre’s events offering. Here’s what we know …
Ask any Melbourne-based foodie and they’ll tell you that a new Shane Delia restaurant is a big deal. The chef and restaurateur’s Delia Group is behind a string of highly praised concepts, including modern Middle Eastern fine-diner Maha and its wine-focussed offshoots Maha North and Maha East, as well as opulent cocktail bar Jayda. Next year, the chef will expand his portfolio to Queensland, announcing plans to open a brand-new restaurant in Brisbane.
Shane and Delia Group will be opening the restaurant inside the Thomas Dixon Centre – Queensland Ballet’s state-of-the-art performing arts precinct on Montague Road. While Shane is keeping mum about the restaurant’s concept for now, we’ve been told the new venue will feature an evolving menu that will take guests on an unrestricted spice journey. It’s a major move for the culinary heavyweight, who is relishing the chance to bring his “passion for bold flavours, rich spices, and diverse culinary traditions to Brisbane.”
“I’m excited to be launching a restaurant in Brisbane,” says Shane. “It’s long been a desire of mine to open a venue in this city – what is continually proving to be a vibrant new culinary destination in Australia.”
Delia Group will be working hand-in-hand with Queensland Ballet’s hospitality partner VenuesLive to transform the Thomas Dixon Centre into a vibrant dining and event destination. Delia Group will be working across all of the hub’s food and beverage outlets, excluding the cafe located next to the Drake Street entrance. Keep your eyes peeled for more info on Shane’s restaurant, which is tentatively slated to open in the first half of 2025.
