The team behind Mr Duncans Collective is expanding its Chinatown Mall portfolio, opening Italian-inspired deli and sandwich joint Hey Boo Boo on the street on Monday December 16. Expect a range of sandwiches served on house-made focaccia, gooey melts and gelato shakes – here’s what we know …
Chinatown Mall in Fortitude Valley has undergone a metamorphosis this year, thanks in no small part to the work of the Mr Duncans Collective. The group has altered the landscape of the iconic strip with a few ambitious culinary concepts, namely its blockbuster cafe Buttery Boy and multi-kitchen dining hub Mr Duncans. The team has got one more surprise up its sleeve for foodies, with brand-new deli and sandwich shop Hey Boo Boo set to open on Duncan Street before the year is out.
Slotting in amongst its sibling concepts, Hey Boo Boo’s menu is the brainchild of head chef Andrea Rotundo – an industry veteran with experience working in top-flight kitchens in London and Sydney. Hey Boo Boo is reportedly looking to become a go-to for “sandwiches with swagger”, with the Andrea and his team infusing Italian flavours into a range of reimagined classics made using the venue’s own fluffy and fresh focaccia.
“Our fresh, house-made focaccia is the perfect canvas for our highest quality ingredients,” says Andrea. “It’s the heart of every sandwich we serve.”
When it officially opens to the public on Monday December 16, Hey Boo Boo will offer a range of Instagram-worthy open sandwiches, closed sandwiches and cheesy melt sandwiches. There will also be a dessert option for those with a potent sweet tooth – we’re talking ice-cream sandwiches (gelato smushed between slabs of sweet focaccia) and gelato shakes.
We’ll have an up-close look at Hey Boo Boo when it opens – stay tuned!
