From news of a new Korean-inspired bakery and cake shop in The City to Fortitude Valley’s new pint-sized coffee slinger, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest food news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Bake-It Bakery & Cafe
A popular Korean-inspired and Underwood-based bakery has made an exciting foray into the inner city. Yesterday, Bake-It Bakery & Cafe opened a brand-new location at 199 Elizabeth Street, pulling back the curtain on a chic, self-serve bakery and cake shop that is shaping up to be a tempting pastry pit stop for those living and working in The City. Heavily influenced by Korean cuisine, but with some tasty Australian-inspired twists, Bake-It’s range boasts a broad array of sweet and savoury options. Leading the shop’s offering is its signature selection of chubby doughnuts (virally popular brioche-based doughnuts piped full of flavoured cream), and gobsmackingly diverse array of whole cakes available to walk in and take away. Unlike its Underwood location, the range at Bake-It Brisbane City has been bolstered with the likes of croissants, danishes, pies and focaccias (all housed in self-serve display cabinets), plus a new range of sandwiches and toasties. Coffee is also available alongside a clutch of specialty beverages. Keep your eyes peeled for a closer look at Bake-It’s new location soon!

Two Sons Espresso
Today, the caffeine-slinging team behind Two Sons Coffee Co on Edward Street is opening another grab-and-go coffee joint – this time in Fortitude Valley. Two Sons Espresso occupies a hole-in-the-wall space at 84 Brunswick Street (the WOTSO Building), from which it is pouring cups of Bear Bones Coffee’s One-Eighty Blend (plus single-origin brews), cold-pressed juices by HRVST ST, iced tea by Origin Tea and turmeric- and matcha-based beverages. As for eats, Two Sons Espresso will offer four kinds of toasted sandwiches from Toastbuds in Bulimba, pastries from Danny’s Bread and a rotating selection of chunky baked-fresh cookies from Miss Matilda. Two Sons Espresso is open to the public from 6:30 am to 2:00 pm, Monday to Friday.

Westholme Wagyu’s Flavour & Forage Dinner Series
A few weeks back, we shared the news that one of Australia’s best wagyu brands was giving a small group of diners the chance to sample some of its premium farm-to-table Australian wagyu via a multi-course dinner at Naldham House. Tickets to Westholme’s Flavour & Forage Dinner Series sold out in record time, meaning many unfortunately missed out on a seat. Well, in good news for keen carnivores desperate to attend, Westholme Wagyu has announced a second event will be taking place on Wednesday April 9 at 6:00 pm. The details remain the same – Naldham House executive chef Douglas Keyte will be dishing up a six-course feast, using Westholme’s nature-led wagyu across dishes like smoked bone marrow beignets, slow-braised beef cheek agnolotti with mushroom and thyme, and a striploin MB6-7+ on the bone – all available with an optional wine pairing featuring a selection of Australian vino. Do not hesitate to nab a ticket – this event will sell out. Head to the Naldham House website to secure your spot.

Pinot & Pearls at Barry Parade Public House
Keen to make plans this Sunday? The crew at Fortitude Valley boozer Barry Parade Public House has just the event for you. On the last Sunday of every month, the bar is hosting Pinot & Pearls, an afternoon soiree featuring oysters, wine and disco music. On Sunday March 30, Barry Parade is inviting the team from Catalogue Records to come through and spin some tunes from 3:00 pm until late, while the bar pops the cork on a wide range of new-world and old-world wines and the kitchen shucks and slings oysters to order. See you there?

And, in case you missed the news …

The Fox Hotel
Ghanem Group – the hospitality heavyweights known for top Brisbane restaurants Donna Chang, Blackbird and Byblos – has announced its takeover of the Fox Hotel, which has been closed since suffering severe flood damage in 2022. The group has revealed plans to reopen the South Brisbane institution in late 2025 after extensive refurbishment undertaken in collaboration with Space Cubed Design Studio. The renovation will span all four floors, blending the hotel’s vibrant history with modern dining and drinking experiences. New features will include a Fish Lane entry, a ground-floor bar and bistro, a late-night cocktail lounge, a gaming area with a bottle shop, two function spaces, and a rooftop terrace offering views of The City. The Beaumont Beer Garden
Early next month, Fortitude Valley will welcome a brand-new open-air beer garden bar – one inspired by Australia’s rugged splendour. The Beaumont Beer Garden, set to open on Monday April 7, draws inspiration from the Great Dividing Range’s diverse landscape and abundance of flora and fauna. Its menu will feature locally sourced ingredients and native produce, with dishes like grilled barramundi with finger lime, slow-cooked eucalyptus lamb, and kangaroo sausages available alongside local beers, wines, and signature cocktails. The venue’s design will incorporate earthy tones like burnt orange and eucalyptus green, reflecting the Great Dividing Range’s natural beauty. With a material palette of timber and iron, vintage pub signage, eucalyptus plants and warm festoon lighting, The Beaumont is set to offer a relaxed, nostalgic atmosphere that pays homage to Australia’s iconic landscapes.
