Apr 01, 2025, updated Apr 01, 2025

From news of a Louisiana-style seafood specialist opening at The Barracks to The City’s new premium karaoke bar, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest food news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Krabby’s Crab Boil
Love a bit (or a lot) of seafood? The Barracks is celebrating the Queensland debut of Krabby’s Crab Boil – an American-inspired eatery specialising in finger-licking seafood and snacks. The Krabby’s team has renovated and reinvigorated the old Hog’s Breath Cafe site, transforming it into a lively dining destination perfect for group gatherings. Guests are encouraged to pop in, don a bib and a pair of gloves, and dive in to a smorgasbord of fresh seafood delights. If the menu at Krabby’s two Victorian locations are any indication, The Barracks outpost will be serving the likes of classic and Boston-style lobster rolls, Alaskan king crab rolls, clam chowder, fried soft-shell crab, chicken wings, onion rings and salt-and-pepper squid. The true gem of the Krabby’s offering, however, is its Louisiana-style seafood boils – piping-hot piles of seasoned seafood (think fried fish, prawns, mussels, crabs, Moreton Bay bugs and lobster) tossed with corn, smoked pork sausage and potato.

BUBBLEBOY
At the beginning of the year, a brand-new juice and smoothie spot stirred up a frenzy in the heart of Newstead. Following the success of its debut, BUBBLEBOY is already expanding. Soon, BUBBLEBOY will open a brand-new green-hued location (designed by by Clui Design and built by Lowry Group) at Portside Wharf, bringing a dash of vibrant energy and signature menu of elevated wellness drinks to the riverside hub. Once open, expect the same killer made-to-order beverages, including nutrient-packed cold-pressed juices, colourful house smoothies and matcha blends – all made using 100-percent organic produce, sourced responsibly from trusted farmers. Much like its sibling location, BUBBLEBOY Hamilton will be dispensing its goods in packaging that is 100 percent recyclable, compostable and biodegradable.

High tea at Perspective Dining
Fortitude Valley’s boundary-pushing degustation restaurant Perspective Dining is set to put a sense-enlivening spin on high tea. From Saturday April 26, head chef Andrew McCrea will be imparting his unique culinary take on a number of high tea classics, experimenting with form and flavour to produce a one-of-a-kind interpretation. The menu will feature ten dishes, divided into two subsections boasting five morsels apiece. ‘Rise and Shine’ will treat guests to the likes of brioche filled with crayfish ham, cucumber pickle and finger lime, pumpkin-seed doughnuts with fermented mandarin, gamebird pate and monkey apple, and Jersey milk scones with handmade preserves and whips. These will be followed by ‘The Forest Floor’ – a clutch of flavour-rich dishes featuring golden meringue with rhubarb, white chocolate and shortbread, pave with smoked pistachio and crackling, and feijoa lamington with coconut toast. Perspective Dining’s high tea will be available from Thursday to Saturday for $89 a head. Bookings launch this afternoon – head to the restaurant’s website to reserve a spot.

Ca-Phé-La
Australian and Vietnamese cuisines are colliding at Inala Plaza, with new nosh spot Ca-Phé-La serving a phenomenal menu of fusion-style breakfast and lunch dishes. The brainchild of Forest Lake restauranteur Van Nguyen, Ca-Phé-La is serving a taste-bud-tantalising mixture of food from Van’s homeland as well as her adopted country, with a menu featuring traditional Vietnamese clay pot dishes as well as Aussie classics like smashed avocado on toast, burgers, toasted sandwiches and more.
