Slip into holiday mode with the Raes x Matteau capsule collection

Do you have those special pieces in your wardrobe that instantly make you feel like you’re heading on a holiday every time you slip them on? Australian fashion label Matteau is renowned for crafting timeless capsule pieces that do just that, firmly positioning themselves as staple items in wardrobes across the globe. It seems fitting, then, that Matteau has teamed up with one of Australia’s most idyllic luxury travel destinations – Raes on Wategos.

To kick off their partnership, Raes on Wategos and Matteau released an exclusive capsule collection of resort wear on October 31, coinciding with Raes’ 30th birthday. True to the shared vision and aesthetic sensibilities of both brands, the collection is simple, considered and uniquely Australian. Says Raes on Wategos general manager Marty McCaig, “as a fellow Australian brand dedicated to timeless design and considered luxury, joining forces with Matteau to bring this collection to life felt like the perfect alignment of our shared values and vision”.

The initial collection features four recognisable Matteau silhouettes – a vintage-inspired men’s-style short-sleeve shirt, a classic relaxed long sleeve shirt, pull-on shorts and drawstring pants, all crafted from silk crepe de chine, as well as a cotton silk voile sarong and scarf. The Australian-made pieces have been designed as a capsule collection, easily styled together or worn as separates for many years to come.

When it came to print design, the Matteau and Raes team immediately recognised parallels between the brands’ design aesthetics. “Looking through the Matteau print archive, we saw an instant connection between our much-loved Talavera print and the iconic entrance tiles at Raes on Wategos,” says Peta Heinsen, co-founder and director of Matteau. “The collection is very much inspired by the coastal lifestyle of Raes.”

Drawing on those much-photographed entrance tiles and the rolling waves of Wategos Beach, the Matteau design team reimagined its Talavera print in an exclusive dusty blue-toned palette dubbed ‘Wategos and Cream’.

This collection is just the beginning of a long-term partnership between the two brands. Next year will see the unveiling of Matteau’s flagship store within The Bonobo by Raes, a new luxury lifestyle precinct opening in Byron Bay in 2025, as well as a Matteau-designed uniform to be introduced across the Raes brand.

Ready to slip into holiday mode? The Raes x Matteau collection is available on the Raes website now. Guests visiting Raes on Wategos can also purchase the collection on site, at reception or through the in-room wardrobe, which offers guests access to the looks during their stay.
